I don’t have very many memories of my baptism day,
but just like birthdays it was so fun to live off of her excitement.
My parents came into town the night before so all the kids were
excited to see them when they woke up. We had some Saturday
business to take care of so we headed to the soccer games and
in the afternoon I finished hemming her dress and getting my
talk ready.
Five o clock seemed so far away at eleven, but I was amazed
at how the hours passed and at four I still wasn’t ready
and late again. Scott took Samantha early to practice her song
and get ready. I arrived right around five, and helped Samantha
change and they started right at five. Samantha was on the program
to sing, “When I am baptized with Kaylee and her mom and
grandma. I sang too, but I immediately got a little chocked
up on the stand and ended up mouthing most of the words. I have
had a cold over the last weeks and wasn’t very confident
in my voice anyway. The girls sounded really nice. Immediately
following the song, it was my turn.
I was assigned the talk on Baptism. I had read a lot of articles
and stories and had about 4 pages of notes that had ideas that
I wanted to cover. I got up and arranged my papers and then
started my talk. At first I was still emotional, but once I
said that I was going to talk to the children to be baptized
it got so much easier. I looked at Samantha for most of my talk
and her eyes were so attentive, I could tell that she was soaking
up everything I said. I hope the image of her face as she sat
next to Scott, listening, and ready to be baptized with be a
moment that I will be able to remember for such a long time.
It was such a sweet experience to see her face.
